Prospectus: Davis Interfaith Civil Right Study Group & Tour.

A learning- and tour of south to find lessons for change in Davis

Please express an interest in this project out of DIA. An exploratory Book group would start this summer-- a 4-6 day tour could be winter/spring 2027 -- after the election.

An organizers’ backstory view - not a historical tourist trip.

  • Re-complexifying your understanding of the struggle for justice in apartheid South 1940-1970

  • Get Behind the myth and heroes- explore strategies and logistics of how it came together.

  • Read contemporary articles to feel what it was like in the middle of a story of profound social change.

  • Tour: Not just a visit to sites, museums & churches but discussion with people who lived through the change on how it really happened.

  • Strengthen your connections in Davis: Sharing this experience with fellow Davisites so we can join together empowered by a stronger network of friends and allies in the interfaith space.

Next Step: Express interest to Alan Hirsch  916-717-9682 (text or call)

Mark your calendars, DIA community and family potluck picnic October 10 Rainbow City

June 24 and 25, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is commemorating their first performance at the Hollywood Bowl (100 years ago), with a concert to benefit women and children.  Ticket proceeds will be matched by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for donating to CARE, The Hunger Project and Helen Keller International.

In Woodland and in stakes across the U.S. on June 26, Watch Parties will be held, with enhanced sound and video quality, so we can invite our neighbors and share a Tabernacle Choir concert here! Choir concerts are more versatile than the Choir’s weekly Sunday broadcasts. They perform international music, and selections once described as “Bach to Broadway”.  Special guest performers will be Donny Osmond, David Foster, Katharine McPhee, Stephanie J. Block and Sebastian Arcelus.

Details:  Woodland Stake Watch Party, June 26, 2026, 7.p.m. Woodland Stake Center, 850 Pioneer Avenue.  Games and snacks at 6 p.m.

Here is a short video about the actual concerts in Los Angeles.
